Irene Marianne Bahmann - short biography
1946 return to Berlin and
continuation of her academic art studies at the
Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin, modern painting taught by Professor Karl Hofer,
and in anatomy taught by Professor Wilhelm Tank,
further painting techniques of the old masters
(inluding self-made egg-tempera colours).
1949 /1950
Move to Hamburg and continuation of her academic art studies at the
Kunst-Hochschule am Lerchenfeld in Hambung,
she also delivered lectures in the field of fashion drawing
(on the basis of her former studies at the fashion design school
"Modeschule" in Plauen in Saxony during the 1930s),
collaboration with architects in modern projects (church stained-glass-windows)
and working as a free-lance portrait-painter.
1952: birth of her daughter Christiane,
1958: move to South Germany, from now on working mostly in the field of advertising.
Over and above this she painted portraits, still lifes, etc. but without major exhibitions,
because she distanced herself from the prevailing dominance of abstract painting,
which seemed to be the only way of painting in post-war-W-Germany.
But from then on she passed all her knowlege about paintings and
painting techniques as well as of the history of modern painting,
anatomy, perspective and the techniques of the old masters
to her daughter Gabriele Christiane.
